inspired by the sheetless bed in my room

Miss Laura just tagged me to fill out this little survey, and thank goodness, because I can't seem to come up with anything to say lately. :)

What is your current obsession?

Well...there's always the ongoing blogging obsession, and more recently farmer's markets and etsy shops. Oh! Sneakers! I might have to do a post on that later.

Coffee or tea?

Haha. Neither. Although I must admit apple cinnamon herbal tea is pretty darn good (thanks to the 10th grade tea party and croquet tournament for that piece of knowledge).

What's for dinner?

Uh...tonight? Wedding reception food? Although I'll probably throw something small together before we go. I really like food.

What was the last thing you bought?

A pepperjack cheese and ham sandwich from the Cougareat. Sooo delicious.

What are you listening to right now?

The hum of the swamp cooler in my very empty apartment (Kellie, come back!!!).

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

I would much rather have gelato than ice cream and my favorite gelato flavors are hazelnut, alpen caramel, and donatella. As for ice cream...that one chocolate and raspberry one that Kellie loves is pretty darn addicting. Same with moosetracks.

What is your favorite color?

Blue and green. They're both favorites. (Brian Regan anyone...?)

What is your favorite piece of clothing in your wardrobe?

Oh man. Well. I love my:
loose gray vest from Urban Outfitters that I may have worn with just about every shirt I own...
hot pencil skirt with leopard lining from Express
my splatter paint NYC tee I bought while on tour
all of my skinny jeans
my Limited Too knit unwaterproof boots
my gold braid headband from Forever XXI
my fabric stud earrings shown in a post below.
They'd make one heck of an ugly outfit, but they're all my favorites. :)

What is your dream job?

Running my own research lab in some exotic location, having full freedom to research whatever I wanted.

How many times do you press the snooze button before you get up?

I don't press the snooze button. I turn off my alarm and then fall back asleep...and miraculously become conscious enough to get ready in time (or at least not super late...)

Pikachu! I choose you!!!

Alyssa

Kim
Jody
Zach
Anthony

Now go and fill it out yourselves. :P

You take the sine of one, add 36 and subtract the atomic mass of carbon.

It's so funny how random things spread like wildfire on facebook. I was tagged by five different people, so I figured I might as well give in and write 25 things about myself...the hard thing is though, I talk so much about myself anyway on this blog, so it's hard to come up with something I haven't already posted for the entire world to read.

25 ThInGs AbOuT MOI in the format of an iTunes essentials playlist:

The Basics:
1. I can't leave my house in the morning until I've had at least something to eat for breakfast. I prefer yogurt with granola and cereal (Honey Nut Chex, Multigrain Cheerios, and Honey Bunches of Oats are my favorites), but even if it's 6:50 and if I don't leave immediately I'll be late for team I grab a granola bar or stick cereal in a ziplock bag. Breakfast is mandatory.

2. If I had to do something sporty (which I never, ever do of my own free will), I'd be a tennis person or a track person.

3. Slow internet makes me psychotic.

4. It makes me smile when I wear unmatching socks (and I do it frequently because I get dressed in the dark every morning...thank you 7 AM rehearsal).

5. Once upon a time in my pre-college life I won three national ballroom titles. It was awesome, but not as fulfilling as you'd expect.

6. I'm such a nerd. I think it'd be really funny to name my future daughter Naome and then we could call her sodium methoxide or sod or oxide for short (or not for short seeing as sodium methoxide is longer than Naome...we'd call her that for nerdiness' sake.)

7. Superlatives: I'm the oldest in my family, the tallest girl on the latin team, and the most likely to take chemistry flashcards to a Relient K concert (true story).

8. I have around 6 best friends.

9. I devour books. I can't slow down enough to read every word, I have to skim and speed through them so I can know what happens. Often this leads to missing key pieces of plots, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

Next Steps:
10. I really, really like doing better than boys in my science/math classes, and better than returned missionaries in my French classes.

11. BUT, I am not a feminist because they are crazies who basically want to be men.

12. (ok, so this is something I think I've typed up on here before, sorry) My favorite smells are things most people find pretty disgusting: fake tan, rhinestone glue, and aura hairspray= the essence of my ballroom experience

13. I don't have a strong opinion on a lot of things, but the things on which I have strong opinions, I have STRONG opinions.

14. I'm not argumentative at all. I'm not easily offended. I rarely get mad at people themselves, it's usually just situations or things that get me angry. And even then, it has been a long time since I have really been ticked off.

15. It would be so great if I could go to an IKEA in Sweden.

16. It would be even better if I went there after having spent half a year in France.

17. I had a root canal done on one of my front teeth without any anesthesia. It makes for a really good dentist horror story.

18. It totally makes my day when I find out someone I know has a blog they update regularly. I love reading about people's lives...I've definitely been guilty of blog stalking...

Deep Cuts:
19. I try to do it all. I can't remember if I've already written this on here either, but sometimes my life feels like an ever-expanding game of twister. My right foot's on chemistry, my left hand's on ballroom, my left foot's on French, my right foot's on church and family, and they're all pulling me in different directions and I'm stretching to stay on top of everything, and eventually the game will be over and I will fall.

20. I like being dramatic while blogging.

21. I don't really think I'll fall, because I really do believe in myself. Time after time, if I've put in the work and have done everything I can and have left the rest to God, it works out for me. Somehow, with God's help, things always work out.

22. I've never had to pay tuition. And I don't ever plan on doing so.

23. I like to toy with ideas and then never do anything about them.

24. When I was a senior in high school I was so frustrated with my AP chemistry class that I threw my text book at my wall. The wall got a nice dent in it, and both covers fell off the book.

25. Hmm...not sure how to phrase this, but I like being the only girl hanging out with a bunch of guys. It doesn't happen very often, but I like it. Like the time we floated down the river in freezing cold weather and I was the only girl who was brave/crazy/whatever enough to do it. I like that.

Greatness, that took forever to write. Hope you feel more enlightened about me. :)

Vent and Tag

Before I fill out the little survey thing Suzy tagged me for, I must vent immediately about "So You Think You Can Dance." (oh, this is such a lovely preview for the months to come.)

I. Can. Not. Believe. There. Is. Not. A. Single. Ballroom. Guy. In. The. Top. Twenty.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GAHHHh I'm so disappointed. Granted, there are some fabulous contemporary and hiphop guys, but come on, we're not going to get a single decent samba, rhumba, samba, chacha, paso, or jive this season from the guys! That makes me so angry! It's all up to Chelsie to represent ballroom now...

Anyway, on to the survey:
A. The rules of the game are posted at the beginning.
B. Each player answers the questions about themselves.
C. At the end of the game the player tags 5 people, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment letting them know they've been tagged and asking them to read your blog.

Where were you 10 years ago: It was a year after I'd moved here, and I was just starting to settle in...I think that was when I started taking dance in Jaylee's basement too.

Five things (that were) on my to-do list today:
1. Go to work. (check)
2. Watch "So You Think You Can Dance." (checkish...will watchall of it again with Jody and Kim later)
3. Put away clothes. (should go do that right now)
4. Mail a check to Andrea.
5. Get "Freakonomics" from the library (done, I even finished reading it this afternoon, I'd highly recommended if you want something intellingent and entertaining to read.)

Five snacks I enjoy
:
1. yoplait light harvest peach yogurt
2. those swiss miss 3 layer chocolate puddings
3. pretzels with pink frosting (yay Bowen girls!)
4. fruit and nut granola bars
5. croissants

What would I do if I were suddenly a billionaire: Go to France for a month. Pay for my parents' home and buy one of my own. Furnish my newly purchased house with Pottery Barn furniture. Buy ballroom costumes, fly pros out for lessons every week, and get new shoes, lots of new shoes (ballroom, that is).

Four of my bad habits:
1. Like Suzy, I also have to check my blog, facebook, email, and all of my friends' blogs before I can get anything done on a computer.
2. blowing bubbles when I chew gum
3. cracking my knuckles
4. whining about things...like SYTYCD....or plane tickets...sorry girls :)

Five jobs that I have had
:
1. Research assistant!!! Yeah!!!
2. Sales associate at Macy's
3. Nanny
4. Dance teacher
5. Babysitter

Five things people don't know about me:
(some of these might be repeats from my multiple secrets posts...I'll try to come up with something original...)
1. I have scoliosis and as a result one of my legs is longer than the other. And it also makes my hips slightly asymmetrical, hehe.
2. I don't really like excessively muscley guys. Ew.
3. I just got new favorite baby names from "Freakonomics." They are Ansel, Asher, and Liam for a boy, and Quinn and Pascale for a girl.
4. I love going to art museums. Sometimes I walk through the performing arts building just to look at the mini exhibits they have set up in the lobby.
5. I love flying. I don't even mind airports or sitting on airplanes for extended periods of time (granted, the farthest I've flown is to NYC/DC, so you know...I've yet to really experience a 12 hour flight or anything).

5 people I'm tagging

1. Amanda (haha now you're double tagged)
2. Alyssa
3. Jody
4. Ashlan
5. Ashley
