i am in denial that the weekend is over
This was our Thanksgiving break:
Doctor Who
Bejeweled
mashed potatoes and gravy
repeated for four days straight.
I also finished reading Into Thin Air about the 1996 Mount Everest climb that went horribly wrong. Aaron's been obsessed with the idea of mountain climbing lately for no known reason, so he really wants to trek to Everest base camp. After reading that book, I never want to step foot on a mountain EVER.
This was meant to be its own post, but what the heck, I'll just tack it on here: I went shopping by myself on Saturday for Christmas clothes. I think it's a law of nature that whenever you're ready to spend money on clothes, you can't find anything you like, but when you can't buy anything, everything looks amazing. This seems to be especially true at Urban Outfitters, which currently seems to have the goal of "How ugly can we make this shirt and still charge $60 for it?" Seriously. Some ugly things going on in that place right now. Also, a lot of sheer things. Actually, that was true for every store. I find sheer clothing extremely annoying, because I am sick to death of wearing undershirts under everything I own, and now I have a if-I-can't-wear-it-without-anything-under-it-then-I'm-not-buying-it policy. They did have a beautiful princess pleated peach maxi skirt that I did want to buy, but: sheer. I also have no idea what I would wear with it. Also discovered: I would really like some polka dot tights, and I love really long loose shirts. I am all about cozy these days.
I did find two shirts at H&M that met my long, cozy, not sheer criteria, so victory me. I also found a beautiful quiche dish at Crate and Barrel for $10 plus 15% off plus free shipping. No intention of making quiche (I hate eggs-omelettes, quiche, breakfast burritos, scrambled eggs, eggs on sandwiches, etc.), but it will make a lovely tart dish or serving dish. I love free shipping so so so much. The only time I shop online is when I can get things shipped for free. Good thing we have Amazon Prime so we get free shipping all the time!
Okay, I think this has gone on long enough. I wish every weekend was a four day weekend.

All of my saving tendencies went out the window
Except in white, so I feel a little bit more conservative and more responsible (it can be used in any room!).
Also, I invested in membership in the American Chemical Society today so that I can go to the national meeting in San Francisco in March. And I'm getting 52 issues of Chemical and Engineering News out of it.
While I'm recounting all of my expenses to the world, I'll just add in the fact that my roommates and I went to Vegas/St. George this weekend. And we ate at the Spice Market Buffet (to the tune of $22/plate), which had awesome chocolate mousse, but severely heat and flavor lacking curry. We window shopped at the Bellagio, and I bought a deck of cards that had been used in play at Caesar's Palace (check that one off the life goal list). And I bought a shirt at Urban Outfitters that says, "French Toast" on it and has a picture of a piece of toast wearing a beret and saying, "Bonjour!" It's quite adorable, and somewhat clever.
Now I need to get back on task and read about 18th century France. Un peu de Voltaire anyone?
Oh and maybe sometime soon I'll write about my classes. Preferably when I don't feel like crying over chem 465...2.67/10 on a quiz? Kill yourself!!!*
*And give yourself a gold star if you know where that quote is from.

I opened up a mint.com account and now feel guilty for writing this...
I have this mindset, which may not entirely be smart, but I keep telling myself that while I'm single and can make superfluous purchases, I should do it, because once I'm married...well...no more buying three different duvet covers from IKEA just because I want some variety because I'll have to pay for insurance and be really poor. This is also the reasoning behind my wanting to buy a nice tv now, while I still have scholarship money and zero financial commitments besides food and books.Hmmm...

IKEA follow up
Be at my apartment (if you need my address, facebook message me) at 3:00 on Friday to carpool up there, or meet us at IKEA by 3:30-3:45 ish.
I'm thinking we could skip the showroom and go straight for the marketplace.
Thoughts?

I may or may not be guilty of quote stealing on occasion...
We had mercifully short bus ride from Rahway, New Jersey to Bridgeport, Connecticut this morning. On our way we stopped in Westport, Connecticut, home of Martha Stewart and David Letterman. As someone on team said, "swankiest little village I've ever seen." Totally picturesque, had no problem imagining Martha running around with a box full of centerpieces or something. Almost paid $24 for a ridiculously cute headband at Banana (it came with a free 9 track download of some awesome artists...that was half the reason I wanted to get it), but talked myself out of it. If I still want it I can always get one in...Soho on Saturday!!! Woo!!! Free day in New York!!!
Anyway, here's what the title of this post is referring to (sick, ended in preposition, if anyone could come up with a sentence that avoids that, let me know because I could not).
"Life is like a box of crayons. Most people are the 8-color boxes, but what you're really looking for are the 64-color boxes with the sharpeners on the back. I fancy myself to be a 64-color box, though I've got a few missing. It's ok though, because I've got some more vibrant colors like periwinkle at my disposal. I have a bit of a problem though in that I can only meet the 8-color boxes. Does anyone else have that problem? I mean there are so many different colors of life, of feeling, of articulation.. so when I meet someone who's an 8-color type.. I'm like, 'Hey girl, magenta!' and she's like, 'Oh, you mean purple!' and she goes off on her purple thing, and I'm like, 'No- I want magenta!'"
- John Mayer
(so the magenta's not magenta...but...whatev, you get the point)
Thanks Josh for more reasons why John Mayer is awesome.
Peace out from the preppiest state in which I've ever been! :)
